The Medical Laboratory Technology Program at DCC is for you if you want a career as a medical laboratory technician, and/or if you want to continue your education and transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology.  The medical laboratory technician performs laboratory procedures designed to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.  These procedures include physical, chemical, or microscopic analysis of body fluids and tissues.  This program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (8410 W. Bryn Mawr, Suite 670, Chicago, IL 60631 (733) 714-8880).

At Dutchess Community College, your program includes both theory and practical experience.  The program is a comprehensive educational experience with training and education in all phases of laboratory medicine, including Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, Blood Transfusion Services and Clinical Chemistry. Students receive a broad background in communication skills, interpersonal relationships, social responsibilities, and basic math and science skills.  Students are trained in a fully-equipped, on-campus medical laboratory which contains extensive automated and semi-automated instrumentation.  During the second year, students complete an internship program of over 450 hours of studying in an area laboratory.

After graduation, you are prepared to enter an exciting career in medical technology.  You are also eligible for national board examinations such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Registry.  Those graduates who wish to pursue their bachelor's degrees in Medical Technology or Biology can transfer to such institutions as:  Marist College, Manhattan College, or such SUNY institutions as:  Albany, Buffalo, and New Paltz.

As a graduate of the program, you may work for a hospital laboratory, medical group laboratory, veterinarian laboratory, commercial laboratory, research laboratory, state and federal health agencies, or a university or college.
