We are delighted that you are thinking about taking a college course from DCC while still in high school. This tells us that you are a smart and ambitious person - just the kind of student we want!
Perhaps you are asking yourself what the difference is between Concurrent Enrollment and Early Admissions: read on for an explanation.
Concurrent enrollment is when you take a college level course at your high school, with only other high school students in the class.
Concurrent Enrollment is not the same as "Early Admission" which is when you, as a high school junior or senior, take a college course at the college, with other college students of all ages.
You are not alone in thinking about taking college courses - high school students across the country are interested in taking Concurrent Enrollment courses because:
- they want to be better prepared for college;
- high schools want to make their curriculum challenging and interesting for qualified students; and
- colleges want to enroll students who are prepared for the rigors of higher education.
The information on this page will help to answer any questions you may have about Concurrent Enrollment. You can also contact your high school guidance counsellor, or call or email the DCC Registrar's Office at (845) 431-8020, weibman@sunyduthess.edu
DCC Concurrent Enrollment Student Handbook 2006-2008
DCC Concurrent Enrollment Program
-
Concurrent Enrollment Status: As a concurrent enrollment student, you are considered to be a part-time student at Dutchess Community College, even though you are taking your college course at your high school. You will receive mail from various college offices, both traditional mail and email, letting you know about deadlines, college events, and other college information, just as a traditional college student would receive.
-
Course Grade: As a concurrent enrollment student at DCC, you will establish an academic record here. You will be mailed a final course grade on an unofficial Dutchess Community College transcript. The grade will be a letter grade based on the College’s grading system (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D, F.)
-
Future Study at DCC: If you continue your studies at DCC after you graduate from high school, the concurrent enrollment course(s) will generally either meet a degree requirement (for instance, ENG 101) or fulfill an elective or general education requirement (for instance, GOV 151) towards a degree.
-
Future Study at Another College or University: If you enroll at a different college, you should request that DCC send an official transcript of the concurrent enrollment coursework to that institution. To order an official transcript, visit www.sunydutchess.edu/registration/transcript.html or contact the Registrar’s Office at (845) 431-8020.
- Summer Study at DCC: Concurrent enrollment students who are at least 16 years of age are welcome to study on the DCC campus this summer. Our summer course schedule is on the DCC web page and includes a variety of exciting courses. To register for a summer class, as a high school student, you will need to present an early admit form from their guidance office. Instructions for registering are also on the DCC website.
Please contact the Registrar's Office at 431-8020 for more information about Dutchess Community College or concurrent enrollment.
