Adolescent Education 7-12 with SUNY New Paltz - Mathematics (EDM)
These jointly-registered programs in adolescent education are designed to facilitate the transfer of students preparing to become certified teachers in grades 7-12 from Dutchess Community College to The College at New Paltz. The curricula for the two years at Dutchess Community is shown on this website for each program. Students admitted to the jointly-registered programs at Dutchess are simultaneously admitted to the College at New Paltz.
Upon completion of the A.S. degree, students may transfer to The College at New Paltz and begin study toward the baccalaureate degree. If they achieve a grade point average of 2.75 in their first semester at New Paltz, they will be admitted to Curriculum I (the professional core) of the adolescent education program. The two years at DCC described below are designed to meet the general education requirements of the College at New Paltz, to complete approximately one half of the academic major at New Paltz required for teacher certification, and to begin to prepare students for the New York State Teacher Certification Examination.
NOTE: This jointly-registered program is designed for students who plan to transfer to The College at New Paltz in adolescent education with the academic majors listed. Students may also prepare to transfer with other majors to New Paltz or to other education programs through the Liberal Arts and Sciences: Humanities and Social Sciences A.A. degree program, or the Early Childhood A.S. degree program. Students planning to transfer to an education program at a school other than The College at New Paltz might wish to discuss their plans with a Transfer Counselor in the Counseling and Career Services office, SSB 301 or at (845) 431-8040 . This program will be modified to comply with changes to the requirements for teacher certification in New York State.
The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is awarded upon completion of the requirements for this program.
