Opportunities to Improve Course Placement

Dutchess Community College wants students to be successful and offers a number of test preparation and review programs to ensure students begin their college coursework in courses guaranteed to build their success. These programs range from SmartStart, an intensive, four–week summer program with 13 years of success, to FOCUS, a first-semester program, to options designed for motivated students, who enjoy working independently. These independent review options include:

Reclaim My Math

Reclaim My Math provides incoming DCC students a review of math skills through computer-assisted and classroom instruction. Sessions starting in April, May, June, July and October give students the opportunity to retest and improve math placement before the start of fall or spring classes. Cost of the program is $20.

Refresh

Refresh provides DCC students a review of writing, reading and math skills. Individual assistance from the Office of Academic Services & Testing utilizes computer-assisted instruction; registration is $20 for six weeks of software access. Upon completion of prescribed modules, students have the option to improve course placement through retesting. Sessions are arranged on an individual basis through the Office of Academic Services & Testing.
