Assistant Director of Human Resources

 The Assistant Director serves as a member of the management/confidential staff and reports directly to the Director of Human Resources Management. The incumbent is responsible for the administration of the day-to-day functions associated with employment, benefits, and for assisting the Director in fulfilling the obligations of the Office of Human Resources. The incumbent is expected to use tact, personal initiative, independent judgment, and responsibility in the performance of the duties required and in the handling of sensitive and/or confidential matters or information and instructions to a diverse population.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Human Resources Management, with minimal supervision required. The incumbent may be responsible for the direct supervision of office staff. He/She will:

 - Handle matters related to hiring, including routine reference checks, new employee orientation, benefits enrollment, ensuring that employees are properly and timely entered into the College’s database, etc.

- Coordinate the administration of the College’s benefit plans, including health insurance, retirement, tax-sheltered annuities, etc. This includes, but is not limited to, enrollment processing, problem resolution, record keeping, planning for appropriate educational programs, maintaining appropriate records, and ensuring compliance with applicable Federal laws and SUNY regulations/guidelines.

- Assist in the preparation of disciplinary incident documentation and responses to contract and non-contract employee grievances.

- Maintain and update, on a continuous basis, personnel records and job descriptions.

- Compile routine reports as required.

- Participate in departmental and institutional assessment activities, as requested.

- Coordinate employee training programs.

- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources Management

 

Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred. A minimum of two years experience in human resource administration, preferably in a collective bargaining environment.
