Associate Dean of Academic Affairs

Dutchess Community College invites applications for the position of Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs, assisting in the development, administration, supervision, and assessment of the College’s credit academic program. The major responsibilities for the position shall include, but not be limited to the following areas:

 

The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs is directly responsible to the Dean of Academic Affairs and is responsible for expanding and improving the College’s assessments effort and developing a culture of assessment and continuous improvement at the College and therefore will:

  • Coordinate the College’s assessment and overall institutional effectiveness programs to encourage continuous improvement and ensure that the College meets accreditation criteria and standards in support of the mission of the College;
  • Coordinate all academic assessment processes, including the campus General Education Assessment Plan;
  • Lead in the development, organization and evaluation of data collection and reporting procedures for academic assessment and institutional effectiveness systems in accordance with regional accreditation criteria and programmatic accreditation standards;
  • Research on an ongoing basis assessment plans, programs, and technologies to advance the effectiveness of assessment at the college;
  • Provide training to faculty and staff on assessment and improvement strategies and techniques;
  • Directly assist in the assessment of and planning for the effectiveness of academic programs and administrative/support areas and provide consultation in designing and carrying out assessment and planning initiatives and evaluations;
  • Collaborate with appropriate parties to develop and implement tools to assess learning across the curriculum, teaching effectiveness, and institutional effectiveness as well as developing means to improve faculty and administrators’ assessment skills and to support academic and administrative units in various areas of assessment;
  • Assist faculty members, academic deans and administrators to interpret data, identify opportunities for improvement in student learning and teaching effectiveness by recommending appropriate strategies and actions;
  • Serve on the College’s Academic Standards Committee;
  • Present periodic assessment and quality improvement updates for faculty and staff;
  • Participate in department, division and institutional assessment activities as required;

Desired Qualifications:

Position requires a Master's degree, classroom-teaching experience, preferably at the community college level, along with two years of direct experience in assessment work and demonstrated ability to facilitate development and submission of required assessment materials. Also required is a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the community college mission, excellent communication skills, commitment to process leadership, teamwork, and consensus decision-making, proficiency in organizing and planning, and excellent leadership and managerial skills.
