DCC Annual Summer Piano Institute
Part-Time Program Staff Position

Job responsibilities:

  • Supervising students ages 9-12 during all Piano Institute instructional hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 29 to July 2  
  • Assisting Piano Institute faculty with music classes and guided practicing
  • Leading icebreakers, team-building activities, and music games for students ages 9-12

The following qualifications are required for this position:

  • Proficiency in playing piano and music theory: intermediate level or higher
  • Energetic, outgoing disposition; genuinely loves to work with children ages 9-12
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual
  • Skilled problem-solver and team player
  • Must hold least a high school diploma or the equivalent certificate

The following qualities are strongly preferred, but not required:

  • Proficiency in singing and/or other musical instruments
  • Substantial experience teaching children ages 5-12 and/or childcare

  • 32 bars of an intermediate-level piano piece

Part-Time Vocal Instructor/Program Staff Position

Performing Arts Institute Vocal Instructor/Counselor job responsibilities:

  • Teach and rehearse 3-4 group choral numbers and possible student vocal solos for each two-week session
  • Work with program participants for all hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday from July 6 to July 31
  • Assist other faculty with blocking, scene study, improvisation exercises, dancing, theater tech, hair/makeup, and any other aspects of the final performances as needed

The candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • Must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in a music, performing arts, or education-related subject
  • Proficiency in playing piano: intermediate level or higher
  • Strong singing, music theory, and aural skills
  • Effectively sings and coaches in the vocal styles that characterize musical theater (Broadway, pop, jazz, classical, etc.)
  • Energetic, outgoing disposition; genuinely loves to work with students ages 7-17
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual
  • Skilled problem-solver and team player

The following qualities are strongly preferred, but not required:

  • Some experience in acting, improvisation, dance, and/or theater tech

Performing Arts Institute Choreographer/Program staff job responsibilities:

  • Choreograph and rehearse two developmentally appropriate, Broadway-influenced dance numbers for each two-week session
  • Works with program participants for all hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday from July 6 to July 31 
  • Assist other faculty with blocking, scene study, improvisation exercises, dancing, theater tech, hair/makeup, and any other aspects of the final performances as needed

The candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older, with at least a high school diploma
  • Substantial dance training and choreography experience
  • Effectively dances and choreographs in the styles that characterize musical theater (jazz, hip-hop, ballet, etc.)
  • Energetic, outgoing disposition; genuinely loves to work with students ages 7-17
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual
  • Skilled problem-solver and team player

The following qualities are strongly preferred, but not required:

  • Some experience in acting, singing, improvisation, and/or theater tech
