Satisfactory Academic Progress
To be eligible to receive federal student aid, you must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward a degree or certificate. You must meet your school's written standard of satisfactory progress. If you're enrolled in a program that's longer than two years, the following definition of satisfactory progress also applies to you: You must have a C average by the end of your second academic year of study or have an academic standing consistent with your school's graduation requirements. You must continue to maintain satisfactory academic progress for the rest of your course of study.
Satisfactory Academic progress is measured by:
Total credits attempted is based on ALL credits applicable to a student's program, including developmental/remedial credits, withdrawals, repeated courses, incomplete courses, failed courses and transfer credits accepted.
Successfully Accumulated credits are based on the following:
Minimum CPA is based on all credit courses applicable to present curriculum.
If you did not meet the guidelines for satisfactory academic progress you can still be eligible for federal financial aid by doing the following:
TITLE IV 150% Rule The federal government stipulates that “…For an undergraduate program the time frame cannot exceed 150% of the published length of the program measured in academic years or terms, credit hours attempted or clock hours completed, as determined by your school. For example, if a degree program requires 70 credits for completion, the maximum number of credits a student would be allowed to attempt at DCC is 70 X 1.50 = 105 credits. An individual will be allowed to increase the 150% threshold by enrolling in a dual degree or certificate program, but cannot, under any circumstances, be eligible for financial aid for the pursuit of any more than two degree or certificate programs at Dutchess Community College. APTS & TAP Waivers
If you are not eligible for APTS or TAP due to grades you can attempt to appeal for a waiver from the Office of the Dean of Student Services due to medical or hardship circumstances that can be documented. Documentation includes letters from doctors, lawyers, counselors or other non-vested third parties. Obtain the required documentation prior to making an appointment in the Office of the Dean of Student Services. You are entitled to only one APTS/TAP waiver during your academic career.
