Letter From the Director of Financial Aid
Dear Student:
College is one of the most important investments that you will ever make. We understand how critical finances can be to your college career, and that is why we would like to provide you with information on available financial aid programs. Follow the steps below to determine your eligibility for financial assistance. Even if you think you will not qualify for financial aid, we urge you to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is easy to fill out, and you may find that you will qualify for some form of aid.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Title IV school code for Dutchess Community College is 002864. Use the FAFSA to apply for the Federal Pell Grant, the Direct Student Loan program, and other federal student financial aid. The FAFSA must be completed each academic year, and should be done at least 8 weeks before the beginning of the semester. The FAFSA may be entered online at
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. For assistance with the FAFSA, please contact the Financial Aid office at (845) 431-8030.
- If you file your FAFSA online and are a New York state resident, please click on the link provided on the confirmation page of your online FAFSA. If you do not apply online, New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (NYSHESC) will mail an Express TAP Application to you in the mail. To apply for a TAP Grant, you must file the ETA using information from your last year's NYS tax return. Please note that TAP is for full-time students only. Dutchess Community College's School Code for TAP is 2053. If you will be attending DCC part-time, you may qualify for the Aid for Part Time Study Program (APTS). APTS applications are available in the Financial Aid Office. To be considered for an APTS award, you must submit a completed application to the Financial Aid Office before the end of the second week of classes.
- Submit any additional information and/or documentation requested by the Financial Aid office immediately. Please note that we may be required to verify items reported on the FAFSA. We will request any documentation that may be needed. We may need to submit corrections to your application based on your documentation.
You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Federal processor once your FAFSA is processed. You will also receive notification of your Federal student aid eligibility from us, usually within two to four weeks after we have received all required documentation. We encourage you to file the FAFSA immediately as it may take several weeks before we receive your record from the Federal processor. We also encourage you to maintain your own financial aid file at home with copies of all of your financial records. In this file, you should keep copies of all forms filed, along with a record of the date you filed each form.
Please be assured that we are here to assist you. Feel free to contact our office at (845) 431-8030 or

if you have a question or if we can help you in any way.
