The EOP Office provides a variety of services to qualified students to assist them in overcoming barriers to academic success. The goal of the office, to provide guidance in comprehensive services to support the success, retention and graduation of its students. The services include:
Orientation Session
New incoming students are required to attend an orientation session prior to the start of each semester. At this time they have the opportunity to become familiar with the expectations of the program as well as meet the staff and fellow students. During the orientation sessions diagnostic testing is also performed in order to assess the needs of every individual and begin an individual ‘plan of action’ designed for academic and personal success.
Counseling
EOP counselors are available to provide guidance in academic, financial, personal and career matters. Students are provided with individual academic advisement each semester to ensure the proper progress in the curriculum is maintained. Anticipated needs such as study time, work schedules, books and supplies expenses are addressed here to adhere to the continuation of an educational plan. Our holistic model provides depth and breadth of services. Advisors are knowledgeable and experienced in the areas of academic advising, study skills, personal counseling, promotion of cultural diversity, financial and student accounting procedures, career development, facilitating student leadership and making appropriate referrals. Most importantly much emphasis is placed in demonstrating how every aspect of the college experience is inter-connected. Facilitating a fond and successful college experience at DCC is the goal of the program.
Tutoring
Students are expected to utilize the comprehensive tutoring services provided for them through EOP funding. Our staff includes an English and math instructor to assist in those areas. We will also assist in meeting other tutoring needs through additional campus resources.
Text Book Library
To assist our student in need, EOP has a revolving textbook library available for students who are unable to obtain all their required text in a timely manner; individual needs are assessed by a counselor.
Seminars & Workshops
Practical skills are emphasized in our workshops throughout the year. We offer a variety of seminars to assist the decision making and development of our students; these include but are not limited to: financial aid, time management, study skills, leadership skills, conquering test anxiety, and effective listening.
