Welcome to the Educational Opportunity Program
What is EOP?
Founded in 1967, due to the efforts of Assemblyman Arthur O. Eve, the State University of New York has been firmly committed to the policy of providing access to the 64 campuses and the Educational Opportunity Centers in the SUNY system. Since the inception of the Educational Opportunity Program, more than 40,000 students have received degrees. The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) brings closer to fulfillment SUNY's policy that "...every student capable of completing a program of higher education shall have the opportunity to do so." The Educational Opportunity Program supports motivated students from New York State who, due to limited financial and academic preparation, have not had the same opportunity as others to achieve their academic potential. Our students demonstrated the ability to successfully complete a program of higher education if provided with support designed to ensure their academic success. EOP students are enrolled in the same degree granting programs as traditionally admitted students. The program, which is designed to provide students with a two or four-year college education, serves students from a variety of circumstances that may present barriers to academic success. Most EOP students are first generation college students. Although each campus program is slightly different, all campuses participating in EOP offer financial aid as well as other services which may include:
*diagnostic testing for prospective and admitted students to determine their academic needs.
