To apply for a Stafford loan a student must following the steps below.
Step One:
When completing the FAFSA form you answer the question, "Which Types of Aid are you Interested In?" as a YES for Loans. If a student does not check Yes, a Stafford Loan will not be awarded.
OR
If a student has already completed a FAFSA form and did not check YES that they were interested in a student loan than they will need to complete a Request for Financial Aid Form and return it to the Office of Financial Aid. (Add Link & Form)
Step Two:
Once a student has received their Award Letter with a Stafford Loan being offered, the student needs to enter their myDCC account. From there they will access Self-Service to either Accept or Decline their Stafford Loan. Once the loan has been accepted the student will then be directed to complete an Entrance Interview and DCC’s Loan Policies & Procedures form.
Step Three:
Complete an entrance interview online. The online entrance interview will discuss your rights and responsibilities of student loan borrowing. This required procedure must be done on a yearly basis via the Mapping Your Future website. (www.mapping-your-future.org) Confirmation will be electronically sent to the Office of Financial Aid within 24 hours of completion. (Or, you can print out an extra copy of your confirmation sheet and bring that into the Office of Financial Aid as proof that the interview was completed.) Always make sure that you keep a copy of the confirmation for your own records.

Step Four:
Complete a Loan Policy and Procedures form (Link and Form) which is available online through our MYDCC website. This required form explains our policies and procedures regarding Stafford Loans. It is important that you read this information carefully. Please make a copy for your records, prior to forwarding the original to us.
Step Five:
Finally, once your loan is certified you will receive a letter from our guarantor, American Student Assistance (ASA) instructing you to electronically sign your Master Promissory Note.
You MUST sign this Master Promissory Note in order to have the Office of Student Accounts receive your loan funds. At the time you electronically sign your promissory note, you will have to choose a lender. Please refer to our Choosing a Stafford Loan Lender Web Page for how to make an informed decision that is best for you.
